FSSAI License

FSSAI registration is mandatory for all food businesses in India involved in manufacturing, storing, transporting, or distributing food. It ensures compliance with food safety standards and provides a 14-digit number that must be displayed on food packaging. Issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), this license offers legal credibility, promotes food safety, and supports business growth. The registration process is governed by the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011.
Who Needs to Register for FSSAI?
- Petty retailers, retail shops, snack shops, confectionery or bakery shops
- Temporary stalls, fixed stalls, or food premises involved in food preparation, storage, distribution, and sale
- Hawkers selling packaged or freshly prepared food
- Dairy units, including milk chilling units, petty milkmen, and milk vendors
- Slaughterhouses
- Fish and meat processing units
- Food manufacturing units, including repacking food
- Vegetable oil processing units
- Proprietary and novel food businesses
- Cold/refrigerated storage facilities
- Transporters of food products using specialized vehicles (e.g., refrigerated vans, milk tankers, food trucks)
- Wholesalers, suppliers, distributors, and marketers of food products
- Hotels, restaurants, and bars
- Canteens, cafeterias, and mid-day meal providers
- Food vending agencies and caterers
- Dhaba, PGs, banquet halls, home-based canteens, and food stalls at fairs/religious institutions
- Importers and exporters of food items and ingredients
- E-commerce food suppliers, including cloud kitchens
